Keri Williams

“Hey y’all, I just wanted to thank you for not letting me give up. There have been plenty of times with other programs where I got so frustrated that I would just accept the possibility that I couldn’t learn how to do this. I haven’t felt that way even once under y’all’s instruction. I’ve seriously made more progress in the last three months than I have the last nine years. So thanks again, y’all are incredible.”

What Students Are Saying

“My riffs sound cohesive instead of forced together. I feel like I actually know how to play guitar and not just copy riffs. I can also improvise much better now, which is cool.”

Trevor George

“I used to play at random without really knowing what to do. Now I feel much more creative. Coming up with new riffs on the spot has never been easier.”

José Daniel Fonseca Sandi
José Daniel Fonseca Sandi

“Navigating the fretboard felt like trying to find my way through a maze. Now it’s much easier to come up with cool, interesting riffs and melodies. My ability to write riffs has improved dramatically, and it’s becoming intuitive rather than a guessing game.”

Jared Takacs
Jared Takacs

“I was amazed that within the first three days, I was already writing riffs unlike anything I’d written before, riffs I can actually say I enjoyed. I felt trapped using the same ‘boxes’ over and over, but now I am in full control of the guitar neck and can connect ideas across the fretboard without getting lost.

I feel much more confident improvising, writing riffs, and jamming with other musicians. The guitar is finally starting to feel like an extension of me.”

Ian Costello
Ian Costello

“I knew things like the seven modes but couldn’t use them to make anything. Now I understand how they fit together, and composing music is much easier. I can find the right notes within a scale faster when writing riffs.”

Pat Mount
Pat Mount

“I used to rely heavily on the same familiar shapes and wasn’t confident writing my own music. Now I can move around the whole fretboard, create better-sounding riffs and solos, and learn songs faster.”

Five Myths About Improving at Writing Riffs

MYTH 01

“I’m just not creative.”

Creativity is something you can develop. We help you understand the tools behind riff writing and how to apply them, taking the guesswork out of creating your own music.

MYTH 02

“I should be able to figure this out on my own.”

Being self-taught doesn’t mean you have to stay stuck alone. Feedback from an instructor can help you recognize what’s holding you back and see possibilities you might have missed.

MYTH 03

“My riffs will always sound the same.”

Every new concept you learn gives you another tool to create with. As you learn to use those tools, you’ll discover new sounds and possibilities that help your riff writing evolve over time.

MYTH 04

“I can’t understand music theory, so I’ll always struggle to be creative.”

Music theory isn’t useful if you don’t know how to apply it. That’s why we pair our curriculum with professional instructor guidance—to break concepts down into something you can understand and show you how to use them in your own riffs.

MYTH 05

“I’ve tried other courses, so this won’t work for me either.”

Other courses use a cookie-cutter approach that can leave you learning concepts without knowing how to use them. Inside Riff U, we build a customized game plan around what you already know, fill the gaps in your understanding, and help you see new possibilities on the guitar—giving you more tools and direction to create.
